DAY 1. Pick up from airport Kuala Namu Airport or Medan accommodation . 3 hour drive to Berestagi, sightseeing on the way, if enough time visit fruit and flower markets, buddist temple, hot spring baths  or Gundaling lookout to the volcanoes. Accommodation Grand Mutiara Hotel.

DAY 2. Wake up early around 5am for a morning sunrise climb of  Sibayak volcano (2-3 hours return).  Leave Berestagi at 8.30am for a 4wd adventure (4 hours) through villages (optional pack for a purpose school visit) and national park and an easy trek (1-1.5 hours) to your camp site for the night at the Wampu River White Water Rafting  start point, arriving late afternoon. Setup camp at this tranquil spot on the river. Time to swim and cool off in the river or try your hand at fishing  before dinner (lunch, dinner included). You are in Rhino country! There is the option to camp here another night to do a full day trek in the jungle with the possibility of spotting wild Rhino and wild orangutans ! (additional cost for extra day and night camping here per person)

DAY 3. After breakfast, start your adrenalin pumping white water rafting adventure (approx 7 hours) down the Wampu River through the rapids and jungle to Bohorok. Do some bird and animal spotting along the way. Stop at the thermal springs in the river. Have a picnic lunch Indonesian style by a waterfall before continue rafting to Bohorok where you will be met by your pickup truck and transported to  your Bukit Lawang accommodation to continue on with your jungle adventure (breakfast lunch included). DAY 4. Free day in Bukit Lawang – A day to rest and recover and to have a look around the local village. Or you can choose optional activities from below (cost extra) Bukit Lawang Guest House

  1. Tangkahan elephants in the morning (2.5 hour drive on mostly dirt road) to arrive late morning, early afternoon elephant washing and ride. Then head back to Bukit Lawang late afternoon/early evening. Please bring change of clothes and towel. Buy your lunch in Tangkahan. Min 2. Cost 1.5M IDR  pp for elephant wash and ride. 0.75M IDR for elephant wash only.
  1. Free day for shopping in the village, walk to local market if on a Friday morning or chilling out by the river.
  2. Late morning/early afternoon bicycle or becak (tuk tuk) tour of ricefields and villages. Visit local market  on Friday, then continue on to village tour of  rice fields, tofu and brown sugar processing, bamboo making. Cost 250.000 IDR pp min 2 people.
  3. You can arrange a massage late afternoon/early evening (150.000 IDR pp) .
  4. ½ day tubing on the Bohork River with lunch 500.000 pp
  5. ½ day trip to the Bat Cave 250.000 IDR pp (min 2)
  6. Visit the second largest waterfall in Sumatra – full day trip. 1M IDR pp (min 2 people)
  7. Hot springs visit – full day trip. 1M IDR pp (min 2 people)
  8. ½ day orangutan trek. 550.000 IDR pp (min 2)
  9. Option to go to live music in the village on Saturday night.

DAY 5 – 10 – 5 DAY TREK – this is the start of  your  5 day Jungles, Rivers and Villages trek (fitness level medium).

DAY 5. This morning head off on your overnight Orangutan jungle trek to do some animal spotting. Look out for orangutans, monkeys, gibbons and more…. After lunch head deeper into the jungle leaving the tourists behind.  The terrain you will be trekking on will be extremely steep, but the views spectacular, with plenty of stops to help you to acclimatize and adjust to the local conditions. Gunung Leuser National Park is mostly mountainous, covering a million hectares, straddling the borders of North Sumatra and Aceh provinces. You will have time to relax and bathe in the Landak River before your evening dinner. You will be amazed at the delicious food your guides are able to cook up in the middle of the jungle! Your tent for the night will be a simple bamboo frame, covered with a plastic tarp. Adi Black jungle camp.

DAY 6. This morning after a hearty jungle breakfast pack up camp and  continue your trek to Batu Kapal through the national park and along the Landak River. Today you will be walking through the river, traversing the river a number of times, so please make sure you have  your river sandals handy. Arrive early afternoon at Batu Kapal to settle into your guest house. Time to relax or explore the local surrounds and swim in the river. Late afternoon/early evening participate in the Batu Kapal Conservation wildlife monitoring program. Go animal spotting and record your findings or plant some trees as part of the Batu Kapal Wildlife Biolink Corridor Program! Sumatra Rain Forest Eco Retreat  accommodation

DAY 7. This morning get ready for your exhilarating 3 hour rock scrambling and open caving adventure at Batu Kapal. Early afternoon. Head off at 12.30pm to trek to Selang Pangeran river past villages, rivers and farm land (1.5 hour walk). Help teach English to local children 3-4.30pm or trek to the Selang Pangeran waterfall (optional – cost extra 400.000 IDR pp). Accommodation Selang Pangeran school house or home stay.

Day 8. This morning donate and plant a tree for you and your family as part of the local reforestation conservation program. Late morning continue trek to Batu Katak (approx 2 hour walk) past villages, rivers and farm land. Option 1. Trek to the Berkeil river to raft tube to the Batu Katak guest house (approx 1.5 hours tubing on the river through some beautiful scenery). Option 2 continue trek to Batu Katak (a further 3 hours walk) through the jungle for animal spotting, maybe wild orangutan, gibbon, macaques and Thomas leaf monkey. Arrive in afternoon.  Accommodation Batu Katak Guest House.

Day 9. Early morning walk to spot wildlife and hopefully gibbon along the base of the hills, followed by a walk back through the village. Afternoon  Option  – opportunity to help with a children’s English lesson at the Tiger House 2-4pm if a volunteer school day. Accommodation Batu Katak Guest House.

Day 10. In morning check out to drive to Medan airport or your Medan accommodation (at your cost) or continue on to your volunteer placement  for a few days to a few weeks ($30 AUD a day includes 3 meals and backpacker style school house accommodation).

At the end of your trek we can arrange transfer to Medan airport or your Medan accommodation (at your cost) or if you have more time and would like to help the local communities you have visited, you can continue on to your volunteer placement  for a few days to a few weeks ($30 AUD a day includes 3 meals and backpacker style school house accommodation).

DAY 1. Pick up from airport Kuala Namu Airport. 4 hour drive to Lake Toba, sightseeing on the way, Arrive at Parapat and take the ferry to Samosir Island. Accommodation on the edge of  Lake Toba.

DAY 2. Lake Toba. Visit local Batak king’s residence (Raja Siallagan). Choose what you would like to do for the rest of the day (at your cost) walk around the local village, hire a bicycle, or just chill out by the lake. Accommodation Lake Toba

DAY3. After breakfast, travel to Berestagi. stopping at the magnificent Sipiso Piso waterfall en route. Visit a traditional Batak house and village on the way (Raja Kerajaan Purba).  Accommodation Berestagi Hotel.
