8 Days 7 Nights - Sumatra Elephants Orangutans and Lake Toba

Bukit Lawang, Tangkahan and Lake Toba

Fitness level average.

Day 1. Pick up from airport Kuala Namu Airport. Drive to Bukit Lawang guest house 4 hours drive. Rest of afternoon to relax at guest house or explore the village and river. Accommodation Bukit Lawang Guest House.

Day 2. After breakfast, head off on either a half day or overnight jungle trek to do some wildlife and orangutan spotting. Jungle lunch and dinner included. Accommodation jungle camp or guesthouse.

Day 3. If on over night trek, after jungle breakfast visit a small waterfall and do some swimming. Return from over night trek to guest house late morning by your jungle water taxi - rubber tubing. Afternoon becak (tuk tuk) village tour of rice fields and brown sugar processing. Accommodation Bukit Lawang Guest House.

Day 4.  After breakfast head off to to Tangkahan (2.5-3 hour drive on mostly dirt road). Afternoon (2pm-4pm)) elephant washing. Accommodation Tangkahan Guest House

Day 5. Leave Tangkahan in the morning to go to to Lake Toba (long drive with stops about 8 hours depending on traffic), sightseeing on the way, stopping at the magnificent Sipiso Piso waterfall en route. Visit a traditional Batak house and village on the way (Raja Kerajaan Purba) if there is enough time. Arrive at Parapat and take the ferry to Samosir Island. Accommodation on the edge of Lake Toba.

Day 6 Lake Toba. Visit local Batak king's residence (Raja Siallagan). Choose what you would like to do for the rest of the day (at your cost) walk around the local village, hire a bicycle, or just chill out by the lake. Car & driver available for your use. Accommodation Lake Toba

Day 7. Free day at Lake Toba. Car and river will be at your disposal.  Accommodation Lake Toba

Day 8. After breakfast , leave for Medan (approx five hour drive), for your flight. If there is enough time visit the Grand Mosque and Palace in Medan on the way to the airport (depending on traffic and flight time)

You can add extra days to this tour for white water rafting on the Wampu River, an over night orangutan trek or visiting the elephants in Tangkahan.
