Itinerary 11 Days 10 Nights – Sumatran Overland Adventure
Tangkahan, Bukit Lawang, Batu Kapal, Berastagi, Lake Toba
Fitness level – average to high. This tour is designed for adventure seekers!
DAY 1. Pick up from Medan airport Kuala Namu. Drive to Bukit Lawang guest house 4 hours drive. Explore village and surrounds at your leisure. Accommodation Bukit Lawang Guest House.
Day 2. This morning head off on overnight jungle trek. Trekking in Gunung Leuser National Park Bukit lawang to spot wild life & orangutans. After lunch head deeper into the jungle leaving the tourists behind Overnight camp at Adi Black Landak river camp (included lunch and dinner).
DAY 3 For overnight trek – After your jungle breakfast continue trekking to your eco retreat at Batu Kapal, a hidden jungle paradise away from the busy tourist village. Accommodation Sumatra Rain Forest Eco Retreat
DAY 4 Free day to choose from many optional activities, informal Indonesian cooking lesson, villages and rive fields our by motor bike, participate in our animal monitoring conservation program on a dusk, dawn day or night walk, plant a tree to help with our wildlife corridor program, go rock scrambling or visit bat cave, do a full day hike to Selang Pangeran waterfall along the Landak river or just relax and explore the river and surrounds, arrange massage. DAY 5 Free day to choose from many optional activities (see above) or relax and enjoy the river and surrounds. Accommodation Sumatra Rain Forest Eco Retreat
DAY 6 This morning rive to Tangkahan guest house 3 hours drive. Option of school visit in the morning if its a school day on the way (Pack for a Purpose program). If it is a market day, visit the market on way. Explore village and surrounds at your leisure late afternoon. Option of afternoon tubing to a waterfall (price extra). Accommodation Tangkahan Guest house.
DAY 7. After breakfast check out from guest house. Elephant washing in morning (not available on Fridays). Leave Tangkahan late morning for 6 hrs to Berastagi accommodation.
DAY 8 Early morning visit to Gundaling Lookout. Hot springs and Buddist temple visit. Optional sunrise climb of Sibayak volcano (extra cost $55 AUD pp). Berastagi accommodation.
DAY 9 Check out of accommodation and visit the fruit and flower markets before traveling to Lake Toba stopping at the magnificent Sipiso Piso waterfall and traditional house en route. Arrive at Parapat and take the ferry to Samosir Island. Settle into accommodation on the edge of Lake Toba.
DAY 10 Free day at Lake Toba – Choose what you would like to do today. Visit small museum and cultural centre at Simanindo and a local Batak king’s residence at Ambarita or visit a traditional Batak Toba house or traditional dance, visit the local market or hire a bicycle. Car & driver Accommodation Lake Toba.
DAY 11 Leave Lake Toba drive to Kuala Namu airport or Medan accommodation.
